The elbow joint is made of three interconnected bones, known as humerus, radius, and ulna. 

These bones have cartilage for absorbing shocks, which helps them slide smoothly against each other. They also have ligaments for keeping the bones in place and tendons that connect muscles to bones and allow different movements. 

If something happens to any of these parts, it results in pain. Some common causes of elbow pain include:

1.   Tendonitis
Tendonitis is the inflammation of tendons, which stems from sudden injuries and repetitive motions. It is common in athletes, painters, plumbers, carpenters, and gardeners because their work involves repetitive movements. Symptoms of Tendonitis include stiff elbow, pain, and weakness in the hands and wrist.

2.   Dislocated Elbow
A dislocated elbow is a condition in which one bone is separated or moved from its normal position. You may experience excruciating pain, but immediate treatment can reduce the risk of permanent damage. It usually occurs due to severe accidents, but sports injuries can also result in a dislocated arm.

3.   Bursitis
Bursitis is the inflammation of fluid-filled, cushioning sacs that surround your bones, tendons, and ligaments. Symptoms include stiffness, swelling, and pain when you bend the elbow. Bursitis can be triggered by the following:

  • Trauma, such as falls.
  • Overworking your elbow joint while playing hockey, football, or basketball.
  • Working on computer keyboards for an extended time.

4.   Elbow Strains And Sprains
Elbow strain is caused by abnormal tearing and stretching of elbow tendons and muscles, resulting in an inability to bend or extend the arm. Strains usually happen due to falls and accidents.

On the other hand, a sprain is defined as abnormal tearing and stretching of ligaments, and it’s common among sports players. Some of the symptoms include swelling, bruising, and pain.
